UK in Leopard Threat Alert
BRITAIN could be over-run by racoons, beavers, pythons and a species of LEOPARD, conservation experts warned yesterday.
Dozens of invading foreign species pose a threat to Britain's countryside and wildlife, said a report by Natural England.
Some, like the African clawed toad, are already here. Others such as the leopard cat and American beaver could get a foothold in the future.
The risk comes mainly from escaping pets and accidental imports, the report warns. And global warming means it is even possible that the Burmese python could establish itself here.
