Big Cat Meets the Metro
THERE are two issues sure to get tongues wagging in the Hills and they are poles apart.
One is the lack of public transport and the other is the Kenthurst cat. Who would have thought that one day they would collide?
When Nathan Rees spoke publicly on Friday about the cat, much of the state's media thought it was pretty amusing. Here was our new Premier, with some major financial challenges on his hands, talking about an animal which may or may not exist and his concern about the safety of our children. Perhaps, he said, there should be an official investigation.
The laughter didn't quite stretch to the Hills.
Now most of us Hills residents like to think that our area is pretty special. So of course we'd all like to believe that the Big Cat is real, because it's one of those quirky little urban myths which make us unique.
However you'd probably be hard-pressed to find a local who believes we need to spend money proving that it exists money that could be spent on the other urban myth, the metro.
The railway line has become a bigger joke than the cat in local circles but many had actually started to believe it may happen when maps were released and, only a few weeks ago, the first drilling began.
However that Mr Rees officially won't ``rule anything in or out'' will pretty much be the last straw for Hills residents.
If there was anyone left who believed that this metro was going to be built, it is doubtful they will now.
