Marsupial Cat Sought by Researcher
Terry Goater has spent more than 30 years on the trail of a `big cat'
that resides around the Inverell area, and he is seeking information
from the public about any sightings of this mysterious animal.
Terry has had an interest in this animal since he was 13 years old and
a neighbour of his dug up one of the only remaining full skeletons of
a marsupial lion, which is now displayed in the Melbourne Museum.
"I think this big cat is related to a marsupial lion, the difference
between him and some other sightings of big cats around the country is
the fact that he only has three front toes and many others have four,
which indicates a large domestic cat.
"This is something entirely different."
Terry has collected a great deal of evidence over the years including
video interviews from people who have seen the animal around the
Elsmore area and a footprint collected from his property near
Pallamallawa.
"I have built a trap on my wife's aunt's property near Elsmore where
we have noticed a lot of activity over the years, but since I have
done that he has gotten shy, I am appealing for information from the
public so I can try and track him down again."
Terry said this animal does not eat meat as far as he knows and has
been attracting the animal with cheese sandwiches for many years.
